Smart contracts are programs that run on the Blockchain.
Smart contracts are the building blocks for Web3, they are programs hosted on the Blockchain that can be interacted with using wallets. They are essential for Defi, DAO's & NFT Marketplaces.
Cryptocurrencies and NFTs are also smart contracts, these "programs" can be interacted with to do things like mint new tokens, trade tokens between users, or read the wallet addresses that own tokens from this contract.
Smart contracts have rules and permissions in the program code that specify which wallets can run functions on the smart contract.
